One of the rarest Rolex Cosmographs, the « Fuerza Aerea del Perú ».
It has been officially supplied to the Peruvian Air-Force in a small quantity estimated about 700 pieces.
« Fuerza Aerea del Perú » was established in 1950 and like many other armies it ordered various instruments from commercial manufacturers. After Omega, Rolex has become its supplier in 1960 for watches amongst which the Chronograph.
The military inscription «Fuerza Aerea del Perú» appears on the case-back and was filled with black enamel (which is still visible in the first word).
In the beginning the final three digits of the serial number appeared on the Inside of the case-back. Later the entire serial number of the watch case is duplicated inside the case-back as it has been seen on the rare 6263 or 1680 seen at famous auctions.
In this way there is no confusion possible as the watch and caseback are not dissociable.
This beautiful fully original Pre-Daytona has a nice patina of the dial, luminous dots and hands which have turned into a yellow.
Good condition of the case for a military watch, very little polished which is rare for a watch of that age.
Chronograph with smooth pushers and an automatic Valjoux caliber 722 movement with manual winding.
Watch delivered on its original stretch rivet bracelet and in its original box.
Produced from the beginning of the 1960s to 1967 in stainless steel, 14 kt and 18 kt gold, the chronograph 6238 is the last model with a smooth bezel and graduated sale printed on the dial.
